Those of us in the traditional healthcare space have a role to play in shaping the future of healthcare in this country. Those of us who are collecting analyzing the data, have an especially important role to play so that we can all act on that data with intention and create healthy outcomes.
- Only 10 to 20% of what we do in the healthcare space are direct determinants of health.
- Other determinants of health include genetics, risk behaviors, and the social and physical environments a person occupies in their daily life.
- Institutional inequities we've experienced stemming from government policies, our educational system and zip codes were contributing factors in the inequitable events around COVID-19.
There are so many opportunities to shape a brighter future in healthcare if we are intentional about what kinds of data we’re analyzing and how we put that data into action to ensure equitable distribution of healthcare in our country.
